Last Updated: Nov 06, 2014 03:46PM PST
Turnitin is a web-based plagiarism and detection application available to faculty at SDSU. While it can be used as a deterrent, it also can be used as an educational device to teach students how to conduct academic research and cite scholarly sources. Turnitin in integrated into Blackboard which makes it easy for you to go back and forth between Blackboard and the Turnitin interface.

Turnitin consists of three main services:
  • OriginalityCheck - This tool identifies areas of student papers that overlap with writing found on the internet and in previously submitted essays to the Turnitin database. A report is then generated for faculty that indicates what percentage of a paper has not been cited or has been copied.
  • GradeMark - This tool facilitates easier online grading of submitted assignments by allowing faculty to create template comments and remarks, associate rubrics, and leave feedback with ease.
  • PeerMark - This tool helps facilitate peer review of assignments using Turnitin
